For more than a decade now Children in Crossfire have been honoured to be supported by Derry couple Martin and Mary Gallagher. The Gallaghers lost their beloved son Christopher to malaria when he was travelling the world in 2006. They decided to set up the Christopher Gallagher Memorial Fund in Christopher’s memory and to date, they have raised more than £70,000. For four weeks each year in the run-up to Christmas, Martin collects at the Guildhall in Derry/Londonderry as our very own Santa Claus. Speaking about his experience working with Children in Crossfire, he said:
“Mary and I have visited Tanzania with Children in Crossfire. We have witnessed the very positive impact they are making for so many little children and their communities. That’s why I am so enthusiastic about my annual Santa Appeal – I know what my efforts are helping to achieve. As well as supporting health-focused projects in Christy’s memory the Fund also contributes to Children in Crossfire’s Early Childhood Development programme in Tanzania, all of which makes us very proud.”
