Chocolate can make the world a better place- in more ways than one. As a celebration of this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight, why not continue to help us raise the bar in our efforts to spread kindness across the world.
Fairtrade is a trading partnership which promotes and recognises the rights of those involved in the production of goods across the world. It ensures fair wages, fair pay and fair trade, and that all goods and services which carry the Fairtrade logo are sustainably sourced and managed. Foyle Fairtrade is a steering group of passionate volunteers across Derry and Strabane, including members of Derry City & Strabane Council, who work to raise awareness of Fairtrade, and explore what actions we can all take to create a fair and just world for all.
This Fairtrade Fortnight, which took place from the 24th February – 8th March, Foyle Fairtrade teamed up with UV Arts to create an interactive mural on Bishops Street, Derry/L’Derry, which celebrates this year’s theme of ‘chocolate’, and the simple gestures and changes we can all make in supporting cocoa farmers and workers.
Foyle Fairtrade also hosted an interactive arts workshop with a number of schools which aimed to facilitate pupils with zealous insight and awareness into supporting the Fairtrade movement. The creation of recipe tags in these workshops are available to collect from the mural on Bishops Street to celebrate cocoa, and the people behinds its production. Why not come along and grab a recipe tag, and help the Fairtrade movement move one step closer to its worldwide message of spreading kindness and fairness. Let’s support the people that make the best product in the world!
In the upcoming months Foyle Fairtrade are looking forward to continuing their engagement with schools, and hosting a number of events to further deepen the work they are doing. If you are interested in getting involved with the Foyle Fairtrade campaign please contact the team at email@example.com. Whether you would like them to host a workshop with your school, youth group or workplace, if you wish to host a public event to explore what Fairtrade means, or that you wish to become a member of the Fairtrade steering group, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
