For many of us, January is seen as a time of change. It’s a time when we make our New Year’s resolutions to try something new or work harder at something we have done before; a time when the short winter days seem that bit brighter and last that bit longer, and a time when we can really think about creating some positive change in the world around us.
With this Little Book of Sustainable Development Goals, here at Children in Crossfire, we’re hoping to inspire everyone to take some real action for change this January!
Established in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 goals which were set up to act as a framework for all countries to follow when planning their development agendas over the next 15 years. Signed by all 193 members of the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals cover a wide range of topics such as Climate Justice, Gender Equality, Quality Education, and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions; and act as a way to ensure that all people throughout the world are given a fair and equal quality of life.
Although many people today are aware of the existence of the Sustainable Development Goals, many would say that they aren’t sure of how they themselves can get involved and play a role in helping to achieve them.
So, what can we all do to help work towards these goals?
There are so many ways in which you can get involved with the SDGs. Whether it’s something small such as posting a tweet on Twitter or sharing an article on Facebook to inform your friends and followers about the #SDGs, to something bigger such as hosting an SDG awareness event in your school or workplace, there are so many things we can do to help create some positive change in the world.
With this Little Book of Sustainable Development Goals, we wish to inform you, guide you, and invite you to take action to become compassionate active citizens who wish to help create a more equal and sustainable world.
Through flicking through these pages you’ll not only find information on each of the SDGs, but you’ll also be given an action which you can take to help us all get one step closer to reaching that goal.
If you ever feel you need a helping hand or wish to get involved in the work that we do to help tackle the Sustainable Development Goals, don’t hesitate to get in touch – it would be great to hear from you!
