You might remember that our Advent Campaign 2014 was aimed at raising funds for safe water for thousands of people, vulnerable people in Ethiopia.
We are delighted to tell you that throughout 2015 and now into 2016 we have been constructing shallow wells and protected springs in three areas. One of the wells we funded is in the village of Wolussoma, 3hrs drive from the capital Addis Ababa. The well provides safe water for a village of 5,000 people that includes 1,200 young children for whom safe, clean water is essential. Having this well has changed the lives of all these people.
Children don’t have to walk 4km each day to get to the previous nearest water source, leaving them time to go to school. Most importantly, they are healthier – levels of diarrhoea, worms and other related illnesses have all reduced, thanks to you. Matthew Banks, our Head of International Programmes explains that “all of these factors are combined to help these children have a better chance of getting to school and learning what they need to progress. A healthy, well-nourished and safe child is much more able to learn.”
None of this would have been possible without your support. You can see how your donations really do make a difference on the ground, and as we’re a local Northern Ireland charity you can contact us or chat to us at any time. Thank you!
