The protection of all children in our programme of work from harm or abuse is pivotal in everything we do.

We implement our Safeguarding Policies with diligence and rigour to do everything we possibly can to ensure all children are protected from harm.

Our Chain of Responsibility:

1. Safeguarding Board Focal Point

  •  Responsible for considering safeguarding in all board decisions;
  •  Responsible for ensuring Board review of Children in Crossfire’s Global structures and procedures in relation to Safeguarding. 

2. Global Safeguarding Manager at Head Office

  •  Responsible for updating policy and designing and managing central structures and procedures for best practice globally. 

3. Country Directors and Safeguarding Officers

  •  Responsible for implementing the policy, procedures, training, and required levels of monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

We are fully committed to supporting the development and implementation of partner policies and procedures in line with the requirements set out under ‘Partner Organisations’ in our Child Protection Policy.

A Programmatic Approach

Issues integral to safeguarding intersect with every one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and more recently the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Whether organisations are working on poverty reduction, getting children into school, tackling gender inequality or reducing child mortality, there is little hope of children reaching their full potential if they are not protected from violence, exploitation, neglect and abuse. Therefore, in order to fully achieve its mission, Children in Crossfire addresses Safeguarding at a strategic and programmatic level.

We do this by:

  • partnering with other civil society organisations to advocate for the strengthening and implementation of laws affecting young children;
  • increasing knowledge of decision makers and key stakeholders with respect to the needs and rights of young children (0-8years) leading to strong resourced laws and policies;

Overall, we promote the development and implementation of rigorous systems and structures which seek to prevent children suffering from harm either through our international work or our work in Ireland & UK.

Dóchas Guide to Ethical Communications:

Children in Crossfire adhere to the Dóchas guide to ethical communications. The Dóchas guide is a resource for international humanitarian and development non-governmental organisations (NGOs) when designing and implementing their communications.

From our work with partners, we know that there are many different stories that we need to communicate. It is important that we present stories of justice and hope which respect the dignity of the people Children in Crossfire support.
